2020 Loretta Lynn's 2 Motocross Recap
One of the best summer days in recent memory, perhaps in decades, embraced the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, home of Washougal MX Park which typically hosts the Washougal National every year, in stark contrast to the condition riders endured for Round 2 of the 2020 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship series held at Loretta Lynn's.
An absolute mudder left many dirt bikes spewing steam, some riders stuck in the muck, a three-time defending Champion's hopes for a fourth title likely dashed but allowed a repeat overall winner. The rain didn't fall all that much during the four Motos, it was the drenching prior to the gate drop that left the Loretta Lynn's Ranch race track a total mess.
In the 450 class, Zach Osborne who almost didn't qualify for Round 2 because of mechanical problems got his second straight win on a (5-1) day and extended his points lead to 19 over Marvin Musquin who took third overall (8-2) and moved into the runner-up position in the points standings from a fifth overall to open the season. Rookie Adam Cianciarulo grabbed second overall for his first 450 class podium thanks to a third in Moto 1 while settling for fifth in Moto 2.
The three time defending Champion Eli Tomac faces an 88-point deficit in his hopes to make it four straight after a 16th overall. Tomac finished ninth in Moto 1 and was in second-place for a time but took no points in Moto 2 after finishing 24th. In both races Tomac's bike gave up the ghost and he was unable to finish. He drops to seventh in the standings after opening the season in third. Justin Barcia who checked out in Moto 1 didn't make it to the finish in the second race getting a no points 32nd but managed a seventh overall.
Broc Tickle (2-9) took fourth and British rider Max Anstie (15-3), who led 11 laps in Moto 2 before settling for third, round out the Top 5.
In the 250 class, Jeremy Martin got his first overall in more than two years on a (3-2) day to keep pace with Dylan Ferrandis (2-4), who worked his way from 20th in Moto 2 and finished fourth for second overall. Martin, a two-time 250 class Champion who suffered a broken back during the Outdoor season in 2018 and was sidelined all of 2019, moves into second-place in the standings just six behind Ferrandis.
RJ Hampshire, who took second overall to open the season drops to fourth in the standings despite winning Moto 1 on Saturday thanks to an 18th in the second race for sixth overall. Alex Martin took third overall on a (7-1) day as he checked out in Moto 2 beating his brother Jeremy by more than a minute. Cameron Mcadoo (4-5) and Shane McElrath (8-3) round out the Top 5.
