2021 Houston Round 2 Supercross Recap

Defending Supercross Champion Eli Tomac rebounded from a lackluster performance to open the season with a Round 2 win on Tuesday at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.

The 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season features mid-week races to accommodate restrictions around the coronavirus pandemic much to the delight of fans who seemingly enjoyed the set-up to finish the 2020 season when the final seven rounds were held in Salt Lake City during the course of three weeks.

Tomac got around Chase Sexton who crashed after six laps and held off rookie Dylan Ferrandis to get his first win of the season and improve his position in the standings from 13th to sixth (and just four points behind first-place Justin Barcia) to defend his title. Veteran Justin Brayton rounded out the podium in third to get on the box for the first time since his Daytona win in 2018.

In the 250 East class, Jett Lawrence checked out for his first career Supercross win and moved into third place in the standings. Opening round winner Christian Craig hangs on the to the points lead thanks to a third-place finish while Colt Nichols follows up his third-place finish to start the season with a second place.

The 2021 Supercross season resumes Saturday in Houston.
