2022 Anaheim 2 Supercross Recap

Eli Tomac got his first win of the season while looking in midseason form by qualifying first, getting that elusive decent start (for him) and leading 13 of 16 laps to easily win Round 4 of the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross series on Saturday at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA.

Tomac, the 2020 Supercross Champion, carried the Red Plate into Anaheim 2 as well as a rising tide of finishes to start the season: sixth, fourth, second and now first. The victory also gives Tomac his first on Yamaha along with his new team after years on Kawasaki. Tomac extends his lead in the points standings to six over Chase Sexton.

Elsewhere, Jason Anderson endured a wild collision with Ken Roczen in the sand pit, stayed upright and hung on for second-place while continuing to show new riding life on Kawasaki after years on Husqvarna. If not for crashes and other riders, Anderson, the 2018 Champion would likely be the points leader. Sexton, who got his first win last week rounded out the podium. Roczen has not finished in the Top 5 since his opening round win and sits in ninth.

Craig, won the first two rounds and made a valiant effort last week to finish third after getting caught up in a first turn crash and resuming his race in last. Michael Mosiman finished second following up his first career win from the week before and trails Lawrence by two in the standings. Lawrence has yet to win a round but continued his podium streak to start the season with a third in Anaheim.

Elsewhere, veteran Vince Friese endured a hard hit to the head with just two laps remaining while in third-place which knocked him out of the race. Friese crashed in the whoops but was unable to get out of the way of Jo Shimoda and took a direct hit to his head from Shimoda's front wheel. He stumbled off the track but did not appear to lose consciousness.
