Not all eyes were focused on Round 2 of Supercross on Saturday in Phoenix as the 2015 AMSOIL Arenacross series started its biggest and perhaps most anticipated season yet on the same day in Cincinnati.
Chris Blose won Moto 1 and took third in Moto 2 for the overall, Zach Ames went (3-2) for second and Matt Goerke went (2-7) for third. A new Arenacross champion will be crowned this year as four-time defending Champion Tyler Bowers moved on to Supercross.
Blose had little difficulty in Moto 1 once he passed holeshot winner Kyle Regal who crashed and relinquished the lead. Once taken, Blose stayed out up front for the win. Ames needed the LCQ to get into the Main but managed a third-place showing once the checkered flag waved with Bobby Kiniry in front of him.
In Moto 2, Jacob Hayes trailed holeshot winner and hometown favorite Steven Mages from the start but took the lead during the first lap and easily won taking fifth overall after a 10th place Moto 1 finish. Much of the action occurred behind him as Jordan Smith worked his way to second and Ames took four laps to reach third-place and then a few laps later passed Smith as Blose followed behind in third securing him the overall. Smith settled on fourth for the Moto and eighth overall.
Gared Steinke finished 12th overall
Gared Steinke, who rides for the MotoSport.com/Lauerman MX team in the Arenacross class finished in 12th overall with 13 points. In Moto 1 Steinke settled on 15th but rebounded in Moto 2 with a respectable sixth-place finish.
"It was a pretty solid weekend, both riders rode hard and came up a bit short," said Kirk Lauerman, team manager. "It's only up from here and we're looking forward to next weekend in Grand Rapids."
In the Lites East Class, Daniel Blair, who also rides for the MotoSport.com/Lauerman MX team finished eighth in his class. Blair took first in his qualifying Heat.

Darian Sanayei grabbed the holeshot in the Lites East class and led wire-to-wire. Daniel Herrlein and Steven Mages rounded out the podium for the East class.
