Welcome to the Mud Bowl 2024 live in San Fransisco, or as we like to call it, Monster Energy AMA Supercross! This is your favorite MotoSport.com Gear Head Ryan Roberts back at it again to break down all the mess that was San Fransisco SuperCross 2024 with hot takes and some not so hot takes.

San Fransisco was looking to be a mudder all week and it definitely turned into one of the biggest mud races in recent memory. It is hard to have any critical information to project how this series will go looking at mud races, but we are here to give you the hot takes you demand! They are just about survival so this may seem like a brief GH Break Down since we couldn’t even tell who was on the track at times.

Chase Sexton was the fastest survivor of the 450 class and took home the win. He won this race with one of the most perfect starts I think that are even possible to have. When his rear wheel crossed the gate he already had a three quarter bike length lead. It was insane what kind of jump he got, and I actually texted my dad and stated that I thought Chase actually jumped the gate, because no human could legally get that good of a start over the best in the world, but he did! In a post-race interview with PulpMx, Chase said he thought he saw the gate flinch, and he just dumped the clutch and went for it. If that was his strategy, it was a zero or hero plan that worked out to be a complete hero move. Eli Tomac got second and Ken Roczen was third, and they had great races but I don't know what to take away from that. You can’t say for sure "Eli is back" from this ride but he looked better than at Anaheim. Maybe he build from this and the real test will be next Saturday in San Diego. Ken Roczen is always great in these conditions and he came from way back to get a solid third. Shane Mcelrath got fourth and this was an amazing three-four race for Suzuki in who knows how long? Shane also wins the award for best SuperCross mustache by a long way! There were a lot of other people all over the results with broken bikes and the results and that sends the points standings after two rounds all over the place. In the words of hopefully future head football coach of the Dallas Cowboys Bill Belichick, "We are onto San Diego."

One amazing note from the 450 race was also when a fan jumped from the stands to help Malcom "Mookie" Stewart to get his bike freed from a tough block and get going again and then went back into the stands. This is why I love our sport!

The 250 race was Jordon Smith as the fastest survivor, and after that there were a lot of broken bikes and disappointed riders with a few happy riders sprinkled in. Jo Shimoda had a DNF and I don't know how he comes back from 2 disappointing rides and being down 29 points. RJ Hampshire had a hard charge going down a couple of times to get ninth. MotoSport.com's own lovable rider Filthy Phil Nicoletti was half a track away from a podium and got passed by his teammate Garret Marchbanks to go from third to fourth. It would have been so awesome to see Phil get a podium but the Supercross gods didn’t have it in them to give him one. Maybe in San Diego!

That is a wrap for the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross San Fransico round! I tweeted or X'ed, whatever it is now, earlier that mud races are like Triple Crown races, they are fun to watch, but you don’t want 17 of them. Here is to hoping San Diego is dry and we get to see these riders at their best! Cheers and hit up any of your favorite Gear Heads at MotoSport.com and we will get you HOOKED UP!
